From 2012 until now, Anatolie Vişnevschi, Doctor Habilitated in Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, chairman of the Commission for attestation of laboratory doctors of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Moldova and president of the Association of Physicians and Specialists in the Field of Laboratory Medicine in the Republic of Moldova, has been the head of the department.

During 2010-2012, the position of head of department was held by Valentin Gudumac, university professor, Doctor Habilitated in Medical Sciences, an outstanding specialist in the service of clinical laboratory diagnostics of the Republic of Moldova and an active participant in the process of optimization and reorganization of the laboratory service.

From 1986 to 2010, Vasile Niguleanu, Doctor Habilitated in Medical Sciences, university professor, president of the Association of Laboratory Physicians of the Republic of Moldova, Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Moldova in science and techniques, served as head of department. During this period, the material basis of the Department has been created and its conceptual principles of training have been established.

The Department of Clinical Laboratory Diagnosis, currently the Department of Laboratory Medicine, was founded in 1986 on the basis of the clinical laboratory diagnostic course and the immunology course within the Refresher Medical Training Faculty.
